Vredendal Flying Club Fly In
Dusted off my trike and headed up to Vredendal for their annual fly in.
Getting out off Cape Town Saturday morning was a little interesting, loads of scattered clouds around with the odd bit of fog along the coast. So decided to give it a chance to burn off and only took off at around 10:00.
Routed from Fisantekraal to Piketberg and then was kindly accommodated by Langebaan ATC and headed towards the coast just south of Elandsbaai and for some low level flying up to Lamberts Bay, and landed for a much needed leg stretch before making the final hope to Vredendal.
On arrival could not have been greeted by a more friendly bunch, the lunchtime braai was blaring and I was soon treated to some lekker chops en vors.
I have not visited the Vredendal Club for many years now and I have to say they have really put in some great efforts to improve the facilities, they are now blessed with eskom power which did a great job keeping the beers cold which along with the great west coast hospitality got the evenings festivities well underway.
A good night around the fire was had by all followed by some seriously heavy snoring from the mattress’s scattered around the hangars.
We were promptly awoken at around 6:30, treated to a full breakfast before the sound of engines erupted the silence of a stunning autumn morning and every one took off and headed home. As I was the only trike the radio was soon quite as all the planes and gyros headed off into the distance.
Perfect flying weather all the way home, felt like I had a real holiday even though it was only one night. Thank you to the Vredendal Flying Club for an amazing well organised and catered for event!
